“The yoga and classical dance traditions of India have been inextricably entwined for millennia. The exacting hand gestures, postures, and movements of Indian classical dance can only be achieved through yogic concentration. Conversely, the aesthetics, symmetry, and dynamism of dance enhance the practice of yoga.”
– Roxanne Kamayani Gupta, Ph. D.
These two traditions, so complementary and essential to one another, are united and explicated in all of Sheena’s offerings, classes, workshops and retreats.

Odissi is a whole body conditioning program that builds strength, power and grace. Previous experience in dance is not required in order to partake in classes and sessions.
Odissi is considered to be a form of yoga and meditation as both help to connect the physical body with spiritual energy. Both practices calm and focus the mind while strengthening the body. Odissi involves flowing movements of the hands, eyes and torso together with rhythmic movements of feet. It uses mudras and includes moments of stillness in poses that originate from asanas. Odissi combines powerful and masculine footwork called Tandava, with beautiful smooth and feminine poses and motions called Lasya.

Yoga allows us to heal our lives from the inside, so that the outside may change to reflect our inner beauty and spiritual light. Yoga assists us in both our softening of any hard edges, as well as our release of limiting patterns that prevent us from growth and being reborn in truth, consciousness, and bliss.
