I aim at continually harmonizing my Life Dance with Mother Earth’s cycles, attempting to allow each movement I make to become more and more aligned and compatible with my heart and soul. From moment to moment, day to day, season to season – I dance with the ever-flowing, ever-changing rhythms and cycles of Life. I do this so that I can offer my life’s dance as a gift and creation of selfless beauty in the world. ॐSheena Oliphant-Blackmore
Sheena is trained in classical ballet, jazz and tap. She studied and practiced these dance styles for 15 years before vinyasa flow yoga, yoga trance dance, free-form dance and movement meditation / yoga therapy came into her life. Sheena is a certified tap and jazz dance teacher since 1999. Currently her focus is on teaching and performing Odissi Dance. For three years she visited India annually to train under the guidance, discipline and wisdom of her teachers and is encouraged by them to practice, perform and teach between her journeys to the Motherland of Yoga and Indian Classical Dance.
Distilling her extensive yoga training, western dance background, and Indian classical dance experience into techniques for yogic study assists Odissi dance students in achieving a dynamic and graceful life-long practice.
“Thank-you to all the classical Indian dancers, teachers and gurus of these ancient dance traditions, thank-you to all that came before me! Thank-you for your inspiration, knowledge, hard work, dedication, discipline, wisdom and loving devotion to your art. Thank-you for showing a way to the embodiment of art as Sadhana.”
Sheena is an Odissi Dancer and Teacher, Yoga Instructor, and Multidisciplinary Artist who travelled to India annually from 2013 – 2016 however, her first initiation into the culture and beauty of India was in 2007 when she journeyed to study, train, and become a certified yoga teacher. Each year while in India, she continued to study and immerse herself in Yoga and Ayurveda as a “Way of Life”, Hindu Mythology, Indian Classical Dance and Vipassana Meditation. She finds fulfillment, inspiration and great joy in serving other women through her nurturing herbal oil body-work sessions, devotional dance practice and yoga.
Sheena’s vocation is in serving to assist others on their personal health and healing journey back to Love (self-love) through an Ayurvedic approach to Massage, Yoga Therapy, Indian Dance as a form of Ayurvedic Psychotherapy, and variety of other healing services she is trained, experienced and well immersed in.
After completing Shiva Rea’s Embody the Flow & Mandala of Asana yoga teacher training modules in 2009 [Santa Monica CA], Sheena’s experience of yoga was forever changed and inspired to participate in her life as an ongoing catalyst for transforming old patterns of body, self and the world around her. She is also trained and certified as a Moksha Yoga instructor since completing over 500 hours of study in the yoga tradition for her Moksha certification [India 2008/09].
Sheena uses the theory of the five elements, the ‘Science of Life’ approach and philosophy of Ayurveda, Yogic Science / Metaphysics as a practical, accessible guide and foundation from which she can help others connect more deeply to the Nature of Self (body / earth, mind / air, emotion / water, spirit / ether, soul / fire) in relation to it’s environment, planet Earth and the stars. She does this through art, yoga and dance offerings; classes, workshops, retreats and performance.
A deep understanding of health, happiness, soul harmony, wholesome enjoyment, satisfaction with one’s life… all of this is entirely experience and only found in knowing Thy Self. Sheena’s dance and yoga offerings simply activate, initiate, support and integrate Awareness into the experience of body and mind. This is the key that unlocks one’s divine potential and profoundness of life experience. As we navigate the soul, we come to realize ourselves as eternal co-creators on earth with a choice to participate fully, intuitively and consciously on the Path of Love.
